IDTT GUIDE TO NORTHSIDE FEST
Northside Fest is basically the music festival you dream of- cheap, sometimes free, happening in your own backyard, with an incredible and diverse array of artists. And it starts TONIGHT. Here’s a playlist and preview highlighting our picks:
Beverly & Charly Bliss @ Alphaville, 11pm
Local favorites bring you scuzzy 90s alternative with an 80s dreamy feel (Beverly) and scuzzy 90s alternative with sticky sweet vocals and songs (Charly Bliss)
TEEN & Lower Dens @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, 8pm
TEEN decided to funk up their sound last year (see our interview!) and it’s been paying off, but our hearts still belong to their first album. +Lower Dens melancholy pop fills the void that Beach House has left us for years.
PC Worship & Guerilla Toss @ Palisades, 8pm
Do you like noise? Get to Palisades tonight. It’s the absolute best kind of noise, from PC Worship’s experimental droney sound to the wacky experimental noise of G-Toss.
Majical Cloudz, Rhye, Neko Case @ 50 Kent, 6pm
Majical Cloudz have the uncanny ability to silence even the most rambunctious crowds. But you absolutely must stay for the sexy, smooth and wide eyed with love and loss sounds of Rhye.
Prince Rama @ Baby’s All Right, 10:30pm
Always amazing and fresh off a tour with Dan Deacon, these Florida sisters blend indie pop and old school hare krishna sounds.
Ryan Hemsworth @ Palisades, 12am
Ryan Hemsworth blends all of your favorite songs- special shouts out to Blink and Sum 41- with danceable pop.
Jerry Paper @ Rough Trade, 9pm
Jerry Paper is the pop star we deserve. Low key and weird and the best twitter presence.
Young Ejecta @ Cameo Gallery, 10pm
Female electronic pop- you know the drill. But her delicate vocals give it that soft and sweet edge you needed.
Pusha T @ House of Vans, 7pm
You’ve been meaning to see Pusha T. It doesn’t matter how much of his music you’re familiar with- he puts on a fantastic show. He killed at Coachella two years ago, so he’s going to bring down the house (of vans) here.
Xiu Xiu @ Palisades, 8pm
Their live show is VISCERAL- all intense screaming and singing and drums and it’s so good you won’t look away.
Sleigh Bells, Run the Jewels @ 50 Kent, 7pm
I’ve seen Sleigh Bells and Run the Jewels 3-5 times now. IT’S ALWAYS AMAZING. Alexis Krauss is a goddess and Run the Jewels will leave you inspired and excited. Both will make you ready to fuck shit up.
Viet Cong @ Music Hall of Williamsburg, 10:30pm
This dark lo-fi rock is illuminated by moments of shining poppiness and this show will likely be clouded in hazey dry ice-meets-weed smoke. Not to miss.
